Preserves for the Holidays

Learn to make delicious preserves and give them as gifts this season! We will be making homemade preserves and decorating jars together, and sharing the final product among the group. Space is limited, so sign up today!

  • Pear Preserves and Chutney-December 4 – 10:30am-2:00pm
  • Grape jelly and spiced apple butter -December 11- 10:30am-2:00pm
  • Cranberry Sauce and Plum Preserves- December 18- 10:30am-2:00pm

Make your own Holiday Wreath

December 10th 10am-1pm

Our Gardening team is hosting a creative event with Christmas cheer. Learn to make your own beautiful, natural holiday wreath using everyday materials and cuttings from seasonal shrubs and trees. You can make a wreath for your door or give it as a gift! Drop in anytime during the event to make your wreath, but please sign up by emailing info@shelbournecommunitykitchen.ca so we can predict needed materials.

Gluten-Free Christmas Cookie Bake –and Swap!

Monday, December 7th, 2pm-5:30pm

Learn to bake 3 different gluten-free Christmas cookies during session and then let the cookie swap begin! There are 6 spaces available to members for the baking session 2pm-4:45pm. There are another 6 spaces open to other gluten-free bakers from the community who would like to bring their favorite cookie and swap with the group. Cookie swap begins at 4:45, with tea and a light savory snack.

Sign up by emailing info@shelbournecommunitykitchen.ca and plan to bring 1 ½ dozen GF Christmas cookies to share.

The Shelbourne Community Kitchen is hosting a federal all candidates debate for the riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands on Food Security. They are coming together with a number of organizations working towards healthy sustainable food systems in the region including the Capital Regional Food and Agriculture Initiative Roundtable (CRFAIR), The Mustard Seed and Lifecycles Project Society.

Eat Think Vote a National campaign put on by Food Secure Canada that aims to engage citizens and candidates in the upcoming federal election on making a national food policy a reality in Canada.

Candidates includes: Elizabeth May, of The Green Party, Tim Kane, of The Liberal Party and Alicia Cormier, of The New Democratic Party have confirmed their participation in the forum.

The format of the evening, following a three minute opening statement by each candidate, is structured around the four topic areas:
• Zero hunger in Canada
• Healthy school food programs
• Support and preservation of indigenous food systems
• Support for new and existing farmers

Approval granted for 3541 Shelbourne St

Last night, the Saanich Countil unanimously approved our Temporary Use Permit application to utilize 3541 Shelbourne St. as a central location.  This is a fantastic achievement in the development of the Shelbourne Community Kitchen Society.

As coordinator, I thank you everyone who contributed to this success. Thank you for your hard work and determination, your friendship and support, and for having faith.

We look forward to sharing our story.

Application for new location

 In January of this year, the Shelbourne Community Kitchen submitted an application to the District of Saanich to utilize a house on Shelbourne Street as our first location. Since then, our application has been making progress.

On Monday, August 18th our application for a Temporary Use Permit for 3541 Shelbourne Street was presented to Council by ?? and ??.  The Council gave us their unanimous support and now  Saanich staff will proceed to schedule public consultation.

We invite our community to submit letters of support for the Temporary Use Permit to operate the Shelbourne Community Kitchen at 3541 Shelbourne Street. Letters can be addressed to:
