Thanks to the Canada Summer Jobs program, we have a new, seasonal employment opportunity at the Shelbourne Community Kitchen!  If you are between the ages of 18-30* and have a passion for growing food and building community, we invite you to apply for our Garden Program Assistant position. 

 

Our Garden Programs play a vital role in our organizations overall sustainability, while providing an abundance of fresh, nutritious food for our members. In partnership with Omnivore Acres Farm and St. Luke’s Anglican Church, The Kitchen manages two exciting growing sites that generate more than 8,000 lbs of fresh food every year. These welcoming growing sites are places where we share in the process of growing food, connect with the land, and connect with each other. Our Garden Programs also encompass activities like fruit picking and farm gleaning as well as a number of workshops and garden supply distribution events in an effort to support food growing at home.

 

The Garden Program Assistant will work alongside our garden teams, providing hands-on support during work parties, and administrative support for various events, workshops and garden tours. At 30 hours/week from now until August 30th, this seasonal position is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working outside and wants to make a direct impact in their community. 

 

Some of the Garden Program Assistant’s responsibilities include:

 

  • Providing on-site support for, and working alongside Garden Leads at Omnivore Acres Farm and our Cedar Hill Garden.
  • Transporting and processing garden harvests in accordance with FoodSafe and Kitchen standards. 
  • Assisting with coordination of community tours and two Get Growing, Victoria! Events.
  • Providing administrative and on-site support for seasonal fruit picking team, a partnership with LifeCycles Fruit Tree Project.

Hours: 30 hrs/week

Remuneration: $19.00/hr

Start Date: this seasonal position starts on the date of hire and ends August 30, 2024.
